Animals with fur, feathers or covered in scales.
Browse field selections: these categories suggested by the museum represent an important part of the collections, without being exhaustive.
Mammals
Almost all mammals are mounted, except for a series of bats preserved in alcohol. The collection also includes a large osteological collection.
Birds
Over 30,000 birds are preserved in the collection, including taxidermied birds and study skins, among them numerous hummingbirds. A collection of eggs, nests and mounted skeletons completes the fonds.
Reptiles and amphibians
Reptiles and amphibians are represented by numerous specimens preserved in alcohol, as well as by taxidermied specimens. Lizards and snakes are particularly well represented.
Fish
The collection includes taxidermied bony fish, sharks and rays, as well as a rich collection preserved in alcohol, from various parts of the globe.
Biological Anthropology
The collection of human skulls was assembled in the 19th century: most of them come from cemeteries in Lyon. There are also specimens from different parts of the world (the Middle East, Asia, etc.).
